Two federal fire department grant programs are up for a reinstatement vote in the U.S. Senate this year, and Senator Charles E. Schumer said he is launching a push to keep the money flowing to local fire departments.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Program are two of the main federal firefighter funding programs, Schumer said. Both are set to run out in 2023, so the Senate has introduced the Fire Grants and Safety Act to keep them funding through at least 2030, through the U.S. Fire Administration.
