BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)– A life-saving resource is closing its doors in the Roanoke Botetourt County area. A lack of volunteer firefighters is something that’s affecting the nation, and the Roanoke Valley is no exception.
“To hear that we are closing down, it is definitely a sad part for the community,” said Richard Shock, a Firefighter EMT with the Read Mountain Volunteer Fire & EMS Department.
After 33 years of service, the Read Mountain Volunteer Fire Department has decided to dissolve its agency.
