ORLAND, Calif. – The Orland and Artois Fire Department responded to a fire, near County Road 25, early Tuesday morning.
Orland Fire says they got a call around 4:30 a.m. about equipment on fire and discovered it was a well drilling platform.
Orland Fire says a water drilling rig hit a gas pocket, causing the fire. It ignited on private property owned by Lassen Land.
Firefighters stayed on scene until around 10 a.m. after creating a hose line around the fire.
Orland Fire says that while they were able to stop the flames from spreading, the fire remains active as the natural gas continues to escape.
